I missed last month's set of notes mainly because we had so much going on.

Home Update

We had a bit of remaining furniture and stuff for the house to source. Our coffee table is still being elusive, but we did finally get some counter stools for our kitchen.

We also got some lamps for our bedroom, and a few rugs. We still have a few items on our punch list with our builder, but we're down to mostly waiting on some door hardware and a faucet that was damaged by contractors.

Hot Tub Problems

Our most urgent issue we had to deal with was that a pack rat got into our hot tub. We learned this when I walked out and found some of the inside foam littered outside one area of the hot tub.

We had already been talking to our pest control guy and had a plan, but we were a bit too late to implement it. Luckily, it only chewed up some cable for some external lights in one corner. We added a wire barrier and some rope lighting around the bottom to prevent further issues. So far it seems to have worked. We just need to repair the lights. Could have been so much worse.

Weekend in San Diego

San Diego happened to have a few places that we've looked at online for stuff for the house, so we spent a weekend there so we could check them out in person and take a little break from constant house stuff.

We also got up to La Jolla to see the seals and sea lions. While it's neat to see them, it's certainly not enjoyable to smell them.

Movies

  • Minions & Monsters is more Minions. This time with monsters. Fun mindless entertainment.
  • The Odyssey is praiseworthy for its technology and dedication to old film techniques, but I'd still prefer watching a classic like Jason & The Argonauts or any of the Harryhausen Sinbad movies.
  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day was maybe the best of the Tom Holland series of movies. So much fun.
  • The Wrecking Crew was an afternoon of mindless entertainment. Nothing award-winning or groundbreaking here.
  • The End of Oak Street had a great 80s Spielberg-like vibe to it. Definitely forced you to suspend your disbelief, but I loved a foreshadowed payoff at the end.
  • Propeller One-Way Night Coach is barely an hour long, but felt like a sitting through a storybook narrated by John Travolta.
  • Coyote vs Acme was a bit more entertaining than I'd have ever thought it would be. Quite a few laugh-out-loud moments. Was surprised that the theater I was in had more adults than children!
