August is coming to a close, and we've gotten a taste of cooler weather here in Arizona. The days still get hot, but the mornings are starting out cool, which is nice.

Red Mountain Trail

Red Mountain

We learned about this trail outside of Flagstaff recently and decide to check it out. Pretty easy to get to and very different once you get towards the end of the hike.

Steep slippery slope. Optional, but likely a nice view at the top. That's as far as we went. It's much steeper than it appears.
The end of the trail is a wonderful area to take a break and enjoy the scenery.

Forest Fire!

We were alerted to a forest fire start started up just a few miles from where we are currently living, as well as, our new house construction. It was very windy, too, which was helping the fire spread quickly.

The main part of the fire started in a canyon on the other side of the hill pictured in the above photo. We received an evacuation notice to be prepared to leave our home. You learn quickly that it's nice to have an evacuation plan, or you're just grabbing stuff without much thought otherwise. Clothes for a few days. Important documents.

The fire ultimately got up to around fifty-five acres and stayed on the other side of the ridge from people's homes. That's thanks to the firefighters were able to fence the fire with red fire suppressant to contain it. It took days before they lifted the evacuation notice, once they were confident there weren't hidden embers laying beneath anything waiting to flare up.

House Construction Update

This month was mostly about wiring, plumbing and making sure all the framing is in place for drywall. One of the last things before drywall is putting in the door frames since we're doing kerf door jambs, which need to be in place prior to drywall.

I'll skip photos, since who wants to see pictures of wiring. I did take a lot of videos, however, for archival. So we know where wires are in the walls later on.

Movies

  • The Naked Gun (2025) had some good laughs. Feels like we need more comedies like that.
  • Freakier Friday was fun, too. I recall enjoying both the previous Freaky Friday movies. A second comedy for the month.
  • Weapons is most definitely not a comedy. I still like Sinners more this year, but this one's up there as far as good times at the movies goes.
